Sol, located in Nova Scotia, carries a full array of books and materials on Gaelic instruction, as well as very competitive prices on the Speaking Our Language series, plus a full array of readers for children of all ages. They also carry the series "Gidhlig Troimh Chomhradh" (Gaelic Through Conversation) by Catriona Parsons, a superb series of books and tapes for learning pronunciation -- as well as "Abair", a series for television, put to video, of Gaelic speakers talking in Gaelic about their jobs and lives. Sol is also the official North American distributor for Acair, the fine publisher of Gaelic books (particularly children's books) in Stornoway, Lewis. Although Siol is in Canada, they will ship anywhere, and their prices are alway posted in both Canadian and U.S. dollars. If you e-mail a request to them, they will put your on their e-mail mailing list announcing special sales when they happen.


The Gaelic Books Council is an excellent organization dedicated to the promotion of Gaelic books and learning materials. The Gaelic Books Club offers excellent prices, and they will send upon request an 80 page catalog of their titles. In addition, if you order from them, you'll receive a copy of their quarterly newsletter, "A' Chiste Leabhraichean" (The Books Chest) advertising specially priced sale items.


The Sandy Group has an extensive collection of Gaelic books, and is the publisher of AM BRAIGHE -- a nifty quarterly newspaper with text in both Scottish Gaelic and English -- fun, and a must-subscribe for the Gaelic enthusiast. Only 16.95 US$ for a year's subscription


Canan is the publishing arm of Sabhal Mr Ostaig, the Gaelic language college on the Isle of Skye, in Scotland. They publish the wonderful Speaking Our Language video series, and carry a variety of learner materials, including the catalog of Acair, the Gaelic book publisher on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides. Canan publishes a catalog, which can be ordered in hard copy,or which may be viewed in part on their web site.
